How to print binder inserts at exact card size
Paper, printer settings, and cutting tips for printing 63 × 88 mm extended-art binder inserts at Actual Size for 9-pocket binder pages, plus 3 × 4 in toploader-size inserts for toploader binders.
Pick the paper
- Inserts in their own pockets: glossy photo paper gives the richest colour at home. Smooth, bright-white matte or satin coated paper around 160 to 200 gsm works well too if you'd rather avoid glare.
- An insert sharing a pocket with a real card: use thinner 100 to 120 gsm matte coated paper so the two pieces fit together.
- Our favourite home setup: an Epson EcoTank ET-2860 with glossy photo paper, set to the matching paper type and the highest quality.
Print and cut
- Download your print-ready PDF.
- Print in full colour at 100% / Actual Size. Turn off Fit, Shrink, and borderless expansion. Print only the cutting sheets, and skip the cover page and the thank-you page at the end.
- Print one proof and measure a finished insert at 63 × 88 mm before printing the rest.
- Let the sheet dry, then cut on the grid lines with a sharp trimmer or a craft knife and a metal ruler.
Using a toploader binder?
- Choose Toploader (3 × 4 in) next to your download. It's the same design at no extra cost. Each insert is 76.2 × 101.6 mm, the outside size of a standard toploader, so it fills a toploader binder pocket snugly.
- Keep your real card in its toploader in the blank pocket, and slide each printed insert straight into its own pocket.
- Toploader sheets come in US Letter landscape (up to 3 × 2 inserts a sheet) or A4 portrait (up to 2 × 2). A 3 × 3 page prints on 2 Letter or 4 A4 sheets. Measure your proof at 76.2 × 101.6 mm.
- Want every insert inside its own toploader too? Choose the standard size: a 63 × 88 mm insert fits in a toploader just like a card.
Note for a copy shop
Please print this PDF in full colour at 100% / Actual Size on smooth matte or satin coated stock around 160 to 200 gsm. Please print one proof. The final trim is 63 × 88 mm. Please do not laminate.
